hypereutectoid rail
The fifth-generation PG5 hypereutectoid rail developed by Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group Research Institute Co., Ltd. successfully passed the flash welding certification test of a heavy-duty railway in Brazil and will be tested simultaneously with similar products of the world’s top companies. This marks that the first hypereutectoid rail independently developed by China has entered a new track for the promotion and application of the international high-end rail market.
Since the Panzhihua Iron and Steel Research Institute launched the development of hypereutectoid rails in 2006, relying on the characteristics of Panxi vanadium and titanium resources and breaking through a number of key technologies, the fifth generation of high-performance hypereutectoid rails has been independently developed in China. The trial application results of the rails on the Daqin Railway and Shuohuang Railway show that the wear resistance of the PG5 hypereutectoid rail is more than 20% higher than that of the existing highest strength rail, the contact fatigue resistance such as peeling off blocks is excellent, and the service performance of the welded joint is stable. It is expected to realize the upgrading of heavy-duty railway rails.
Compared with ordinary rails, hypereutectoid rails have higher carbon content. Relying on technologies such as multi-component composite microalloying and precise online heat treatment, higher strength and hardness can be obtained. The service life of railway rails is the mainstream product of international heavy haul railways.
