Combining the development of the digital economy to build a smart port that can “think and make decisions” is becoming a breakthrough for port companies to enhance their comprehensive competitiveness. As a pioneer in the construction of fully automated terminals in China, the unmanned and intelligent construction of Shandong ports has “blossomed at multiple points”, which has effectively improved the efficiency of port operations and the quality of development.

Qingdao Port

In the fully automated terminal operation area of Qingdao Port, there was no operator on site. The field area has achieved full coverage of 5G signals, the communication bandwidth of the track crane has been greatly improved, and the delay is almost zero. Cables are reduced, and not only the technical application is more flexible, but also the equipment maintenance is more convenient and time-saving.

The application of advanced technologies such as hydrogen-powered automated rail cranes, 5G+automation, machine vision+automation, and 3D visualized operation and maintenance platforms has made the operating efficiency of Qingdao Port’s fully automated terminals more than 50% higher than that of similar foreign terminals. The efficiency of the operation is 60.18 natural boxes/hour, setting a new world record for the efficiency of fully automated terminal loading and unloading for the ninth time.

With the support of science and technology, the intelligent construction of Shandong ports is extending from a single terminal to multiple terminals and radiates from the container field to the bulk cargo field.

Rizhao port

Different from mainstream fully automated container terminals that often adopt a vertical layout mode, the fully automated terminal of Rizhao Port adopts an open layout along the shore, which realizes “less running” of automated rail cranes, “free movement” of trucks in the yard, and comprehensive capacity of a single container. The energy consumption is reduced by 50%; the self-developed unmanned truck full-site dispatch system is integrated with the track crane and bridge crane dispatch system to realize the unmanned truck’s full working condition and large-scale operation.

The data shows that in the past year of operation, the ship-hour efficiency of the fully automated terminal in Rizhao Port has increased by more than 26%, the volume of containers in the yard accounted for more than 50% of the total terminal, and the ship maintenance rate has reached 100%. Its reliability, stability, and practicality of gender have been validated.

In Yantai Port, a port in Shandong, a specialized fully automated dry bulk terminal independently developed by researchers has been put into operation. This is another major scientific and technological innovation achievement achieved by Shandong Port in the field of smart port construction.

Based on the three mainstream cargoes of iron ore, bauxite, and coal, Yantai Port has fully applied technologies such as the Internet of Things, laser scanning, point cloud imaging, and high-precision positioning, and independently developed a fully automatic control of the entire process of a dry bulk cargo specialized terminal The system realizes the process automation of “grabbing and unloading, retrieving and loading, stacking and retrieving and mixing, retrieving and loading” process, which improves the comprehensive operation efficiency of the terminal by 8%, reduces the average time of ships stopping at the port by 6%, and facilitates the operation of the port area. The driver is reduced by more than 30%.

The continuous improvement of the level of intelligence has output surging power for the high-quality development of Shandong ports. In the first 10 months of this year, Shandong ports continued to perform at an efficient level, with a total cargo throughput of 1.36 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 7%; container volume was 31.12 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 9.1%.
