Safety Inspection of Bridge Crane Tracks

Bridge crane tracks are a key component of bridge crane operation, ensuring that the crane is able to move smoothly and safely around the work area. The selection, laying and maintenance of the track is critical to the stability and longevity of the entire lifting system.

Most of the bridge crane rails are 38kg/m, 43kg/m, 50kg/m rails and QU type rails. In addition, some light-duty or small bridge cranes may use H-beam or square steel as rails.

GloryRail specialises in the sale of rails and ancillary equipment and offers a wide range of rail types and connecting components.

General Inspection

1. Check rails, bolts and cleats for cracks, loosening and corrosion. If cracks are found, new parts should be replaced in time, and if there are other defects, they should be repaired in time.

Cracks on the rail can be checked by line track flaw detector. Cracks are divided into transverse cracks perpendicular to the rail, longitudinal cracks along the rail and diagonal cracks. If a small transverse crack occurs, a fishtail plate can be used to connect it; oblique or longitudinal cracks should be removed from the cracked part and replaced with a new rail.

2. If there is a small scar or damage on the top surface of the rail, it can be patched up by welding and then polished by grinding wheel. Rail top surface and side wear (single side) should not exceed 3mm.

3. The connecting bolts of the fishtail plate shall not be less than 4, and generally there should be 6.

4. Trolley track each group of pad iron should not be more than two, the length should not be less than 100mm, the width should be wider than the bottom surface of the rail 10 ~ 20mm. two groups of pad iron spacing should not be less than 200mm. pad iron and the bottom surface of the track the actual contact area should not be less than 60% of the nominal contact area, the local gap should not be greater than 1mm (with a ruler to check).

Measurement and adjustment of tracks

1. The straightness deviation of the track can be checked by the method of pulling steel wire, that is, pulling a steel wire with a diameter of 0.5mm on the two ends of the track, and then measuring point by point by the method of hanging the wire hammer, and the interval between measurement points can be about 2m.

2. The elevation of the track can be measured by a level.

3. The span of the track can be checked with a steel tape measure, one end of the tape is fastened with a cardboard and the other end is tethered to a spring scale with a tensile force of about 150N, which is measured at intervals of 5m.Measurement should be played in the middle of the rail before the sample punching eyes, each measurement point spring scale tension should be consistent.

4. The permissible deviation of the track gauge of the overhead travelling crane is ±5mm, the longitudinal inclination of the track is 1/1500, and the permissible deviation of the relative elevation of the two tracks is 10mm.

5. Rail joints can be made into direct heads or angled joints with 45° Slant joint can make the wheels in the joint smooth transition. The general joint gap is 1~2mm, in the cold areas of winter construction or installation, the temperature is lower than the temperature of the perennial use, and the difference is more than 20 ℃, should consider the temperature gap, generally 4~6mm. joints of the two rails of the transverse displacement or unevenness of the deviation shall not be greater than 1mm. two rail joints should be staggered more than 500mm.

6. The deviation between the actual centre line of the rail and the geometric centre line of the track should not be more than 3mm.

Overhead crane track is a key component of stable crane operation, choosing the right type of track, laying it correctly and carrying out regular maintenance can effectively improve the service life of the crane, reduce the failure rate and ensure safe production.
