Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail adopts Chinese technology and Chinese standards
When it is finished, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR), which was constructed by Chinese firms using Chinese technology and standards, would be the first high-speed railway in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
The HSR connects Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, with Bandung, the country’s fourth-largest city. The 142-kilometer track aims to attain a top speed of 350 km/h. After completion, the journey from Jakarta to Bandung will only take forty minutes rather than almost three hours, significantly promoting Indonesia’s economic and social development.
The HSR uses 50-meter-long steel rails manufactured in China. After arriving at the track-laying base, these domestically produced rails are welded into 500-meter-long rails using a complete set of domestically produced equipment and advanced pulsed flash welding technology. These rails are then transported to the construction site by long-rail transport trains.
Jakarta Bandung high-speed rail
The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) officially started construction in June 2018. The last shipment of 50-meter-long steel rails for the HSR reached Cilazza Port in Indonesia on September 21, 2021, following the successful completion of the No. 7 tunnel in November 2020. This indicated that all 38,000 tons of steel rails required for the Jakarta-Bandung HSR had been delivered. Over the course of ten months, these rails were supplied in five batches to provide material support for the subsequent track-laying operation.
Jakarta Bandung high-speed rail trains
The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) completed all 13 of its tunnels when the No. 2 tunnel was finished on June 21, 2022. Track laying for the Jakarta-Bandung HSR main line began on July 1, 2022. Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta received high-speed and thorough inspection trains for the Jakarta-Bandung HSR on September 1, 2022, after being transported from China to Indonesia. Another important turning point in the Jakarta-Bandung HSR project’s development was reached when these first high-speed trains were delivered to Indonesia.
The track laying channel was entirely opened and the box girder installation for the whole Jakarta-Bandung HSR was successfully finished on October 16, 2022, providing a strong basis for its completion and traffic opening in June 2023.
