Heat Treatment Technology of Wheel Forgings
In addition to eliminating stress and reducing hardness, the main purpose of heat treatment of wheel forgings is first to prevent white spots in forgings, followed by improving the uniformity of chemical composition and adjusting and refining the organization of forgings. The current consensus view is that the white spots are the result of the combined action of hydrogen in steel and internal stress.
The forging products produced by the forging factory are different in shape, and the mechanical parts composed of different forging products are also different in size. The advantages of forgings are extendable length and contractile cross section; Contractile length, extendable cross section; Variable length, variable cross section.
The types of forgings are: free forging/hand forging, hot die forging/precision forging, top forging, roll forging and die forging. Forgings are metal objects in which pressure is applied to shape a desired shape or suitable compression force through plastic deformation, typically through the use of a hammer or pressure. Of course, reducing forging friction can not only save energy, but also improve the life of the mold. Since the deformation is more uniform, it helps to improve the organizational properties of forging products, and one of the important measures to reduce friction is to use lubrication. Due to the different forging processing methods and the difference in working temperature, the lubricants used are also different. Glass lubricants are mostly used in superalloy and titanium alloy forging. For hot forging of steel, water-based graphite is a very widely used lubricant, for cold forging, due to high pressure, forging also requires phosphate or oxalate treatment.
Purpose of heat treatment:
1. Eliminate forging stress, reduce the surface hardness of forgings, improve its cutting performance;
2. For the workpiece that is no longer subjected to final heat treatment (or product heat treatment), the post-forging heat treatment should also make the forging meet the various performance indicators required by the technical conditions of the product;
3. Adjust and improve the overheating and coarse structure formed in the forging process of large forgings, reduce the internal chemical composition and metallographic structure of large forgings, refine the austenite grain of steel;
4. Improve the ultrasonic flaw detection of forgings, eliminate grass waves, so that various internal defects in forgings can be more clearly displayed, in order to eliminate the transfer of unqualified forgings to the next process.
The heat treatment methods of crane wheels mainly include the following:
1. Overall tempering treatment: This method is to heat and cool the wheel as a whole, usually quenching and tempering treatment. It can improve the overall hardness and toughness of the wheel, suitable for high strength and high wear resistance requirements.
2. Surface quenching treatment: This method is to heat the surface of the wheel by high-frequency or medium-frequency induction, and then cool it quickly. Surface quenching can significantly improve the hardness and wear resistance of the wheel surface, while maintaining the toughness of the wheel core.
3. Carburizing treatment: Carburizing is to heat the wheel in a carbon-rich medium, so that carbon atoms penetrate into the surface of the wheel. After carburizing, quenching and tempering are usually required to obtain a surface layer of high hardness and high wear resistance, while maintaining the toughness of the inner layer.
4. Nitriding treatment: nitriding is to heat the wheel in a nitrogen-containing medium, so that nitrogen atoms penetrate the surface to form nitrides. Nitriding treatment can provide higher surface hardness and wear resistance, and has better fatigue resistance.
5. Carbonitriding: carbonitriding is to heat the wheel in the medium of carbon and nitrogen at the same time, so that the two penetrate the wheel surface at the same time. This treatment can improve the surface hardness and wear resistance, while enhancing the corrosion resistance of the surface.
According to the specific requirements of the use of these heat treatment methods and different wheel materials, the appropriate method can be selected for treatment to achieve the best performance.
