Custom Crane Rail Solution for Waste-to-Energy Facility in Taiwan

Client Profile

The client is a professional waste treatment operator in Taiwan, running a municipal solid waste incineration power plant. The core handling equipment of the facility is garbage grab overhead cranes, which are installed above the waste storage pit and undertake full-process operations including waste unloading, stacking, homogenizing mixing, and continuous feeding to incineration boilers, supporting 24/7 uninterrupted waste disposal and energy recovery operations.

Project Challenges

The garbage grab crane system operates in a harsh environment with high humidity, corrosive gases and high-frequency cyclic loading, putting forward strict comprehensive requirements for the crane rail system:
  • High load and fatigue resistance: The main crane runs continuously with heavy grab loads, requiring rails with outstanding bending strength and anti-fatigue performance to avoid deformation or crack under long-term cyclic stress.
  • Wear and corrosion adaptability: Frequent wheel friction and the corrosive atmosphere of the waste pit require the rail surface to have excellent wear resistance and stable mechanical properties in humid environments.
  • Graded configuration demand: In addition to the heavy-duty main crane runway, the plant also needs auxiliary rails for maintenance channels and light material transfer, requiring differentiated specifications to balance performance and project cost.
  • Dimensional compatibility: Rails must match the existing crane wheel sets and fastening systems accurately to ensure smooth installation and stable operation.

Our Solution & Supply Scope

Based on the plant’s process layout and load grading of different stations, we provided a targeted hierarchical rail matching scheme: heavy-duty crane rail for the main working line, and national standard light rail for auxiliary lines, to achieve the optimal balance of performance and investment.

Product Specifications & Technical Highlights

1 A65 Heavy-Duty Crane Rail (DIN 536 Standard)

A65 is a classic heavy-duty crane rail profile compliant with DIN 536-1 standard, specially developed for high-load industrial crane systems:
  • Unit weight 43.1 kg/m, with 65mm rail head width, 75mm rail height and 175mm bottom width
  • The wide-head and thick-web optimized design disperses wheel contact stress, resists lateral impact, and ensures stable operation of the crane under heavy load and frequent starting/braking conditions
  • Excellent bending strength and wear resistance, adapting to the high work duty of garbage grab cranes, and effectively extending the service life of the rail system

2 GB Standard Light Rails (55Q Material)

GB 30kg and GB 22kg light rails adopt 55Q high-quality rail steel, which is a cost-effective solution for medium and light load scenarios:
  • 55Q material features high surface hardness, excellent wear resistance and temperature adaptability, maintaining stable mechanical properties in complex plant environments
  • Reasonable cross-sectional design ensures sufficient structural strength while controlling engineering cost, suitable for auxiliary working lines with medium and light loads
  • Standardized dimensions are compatible with conventional rail fastening systems, supporting fast on-site installation and replacement

Project Outcomes & Customer Benefits

  1. Reliable support for core production: The A65 main rail fully bears the high-frequency heavy-load operation of the garbage grab crane, ensuring the continuity of waste feeding and incineration power generation, and avoiding production interruption caused by rail failure.
  2. Graded cost optimization: The differentiated configuration of heavy rail + light rail avoids over-engineering of auxiliary lines, reducing the overall project investment on the premise of meeting safety and performance requirements.
  3. Reduced full-life cycle cost: High-quality materials and optimized profile design effectively reduce rail wear and fatigue damage, lower the frequency of later maintenance and replacement.
  4. Smooth delivery and adaptation: All rails are produced in strict accordance with standard dimensional tolerances, perfectly matching the client’s existing crane wheels and fastening accessories, supporting on-time delivery and smooth on-site installation.

Conclusion

This project provides a targeted graded rail solution for the Taiwan waste-to-energy plant based on the working characteristics of garbage grab cranes and the differentiated load demands of different stations. The combination of DIN standard heavy crane rail and GB standard light rail not only adapts to the harsh working conditions of 24-hour continuous heavy-load operation, but also achieves optimal cost control, and has been highly recognized by the client.
