2022 Global Ports Forum Awards Ceremony Held

The 2022 Global Port Forum Award Ceremony took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on the 28th. People from the port and terminal industries in China, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Angola and other countries were there.

According to what we heard, the Global Port Forum Awards Selection Committee is made up of people who use ports and experts in the field. They look at each award. Talk about who should win based on what the ports and wharfs have done. Then they make a decision.

The Global Port Forum gives out 18 awards. Some of these awards are Port/Wharf of the Year, Best Transshipment Hub Port/Wharf of the Year, Best Port/Wharf Contractor of the Year and Best Sustainable Port/Wharf of the Year.

China Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd won the Best Port/Wharf Contractor of the Year award. They built the Saudi Jazan Commercial Port. Did a great job. Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port won the Best Multipurpose Port/Wharf of the Year Award. Malaysia’s West Port Klang won the Year’s Best Transshipment Hub Port/Wharf award.

Huang Mingxing, the chairman of the Global Ports Forum, talked about China Harbours awards. He said China Harbour did a job building the Jazan commercial port project. This port is very important for the Middle East, Saudi Arabia because it is located where two big trade routes meet.

The Jazan Commercial Port is on the Red Sea, 80 kilometers from the city of Jazan. It has four berths and is a big part of the Jazan Economic City. China Harbour won the contract to build this port in 2016 and finished it in 2019. The port had its opening ceremony in September. Is now open for business.

Now that the port is open it will help the industries in the Jazan Economic City grow. It will also help the economy of Saudi Arabia in the southwest region. This is a step towards Saudi Arabias goal of changing its economy by 2030.

Yang Zhiyuan, the General Manager of the Middle East Regional Management Center of China Harbour Engineering Company said the Jizan Commercial Port Project is a deal for China Harbour. After the project is done China Harbour will work with Saudi Aramco and the Royal Commission to run the port. They will also work with Hutchison Whampoa. They think that with everyones help Jizan Commercial Port will become an important port, in southwest Saudi Arabia. The people who use this port will get services and it will help the economy of Saudi Arabia.

The Global Ports Forum was started in Singapore in 2008. Its goal is to bring people in the port industry to help the industry grow. They do this by organizing events, seminars and short courses related to ports.
